Salzkammergut: European Capital of Culture 2024
In 2024, the Salzkammergut will join Bodo in Norway and Tartu in Estonia as the European Capital of Culture 2024. The Salzkammergut is known for its spectacular mountain and lake scenery as well as its great historical and cultural significance.
The region has produced and attracted many famous cultural figures. Examples include Franz Lehar and Gustav Klimt, as well as many others who lived in the Salzkammergut around the region's most famous town, Bad Ischl.
The entire Salzkammergut has put together a magnificent and varied program with the participation of a total of 20 municipalities in the 2024 region. Our Gosau is also involved with various events.
The cultural year will start with the traditional "Gosau Balloon Week". The official opening program will take place on Saturday, 20 January 2024 at 5.00 pm in Bad Ischl under the direction of Hubert von Goisern, currently the most famous cultural figure in the Salzkammergut.
