In 2024, the Salzkammergut will join Bodo in Norway and Tartu in Estonia as the European Capital of Culture 2024. The Salzkammergut is known for its spectacular mountain and lake scenery as well as its great historical and cultural significance.

The region has produced and attracted many famous cultural figures. Examples include Franz Lehar and Gustav Klimt, as well as many others who lived in the Salzkammergut around the region's most famous town, Bad Ischl.

The entire Salzkammergut has put together a magnificent and varied program with the participation of a total of 20 municipalities in the 2024 region. Our Gosau is also involved with various events.

The cultural year will start with the traditional "Gosau Balloon Week". The official opening program will take place on Saturday, 20 January 2024 at 5.00 pm in Bad Ischl under the direction of Hubert von Goisern, currently the most famous cultural figure in the Salzkammergut. The entire program is linked here: Events - Salzkammergut 2024 (salzkammergut-2024.at)

In our Blog area we intend to collect little reports and comments, various pieces of advice and useful tips.We will recommend excursions and suggestions about hiking and climbing, outings or special restaurants and Alpine huts. We would like to point out that these suggestions are strictly personal and most subjective, just things we would love to share with you. By and by we will add little reports and entries , so please be curious and check it out now and then.

For those of you who want more demanding hikes and climbs than just the usual walks to the Alpine huts and across the pastures we recommend a climb of one of the terrific summits of the Gosaukamm. Maybe the large Donnerkogel is the destination of your choice. Once you have reached the summit, you will enjoy a most spectacular view over to the Dachstein summit, the Tennen Mountains …..An unforgettabe experience! But not necessarily the right thing for newcomers. And you should have a certain physical fitness, the right kind of shoes, and maybe an experienced guide for your first trip …
